Raising comedians.....

So, yesterday, Shon and I were talking about some new clothes I bought for Meghan. Turns out I got the wrong size (I didn't want to mess with waiting in line for a dressing room for her to try them on) so I have to go exchange them. We already exchanged some at Target last week and have to do the same at Old Navy this week.

Meghan pipes up and says, "Yeah, Mommy always buys too little clothes so we always have to take them back."

Shon replied, "It's because you keep growing so much. You should just stop growing."

Meghan says, "But I caaaaan't stop growing. I keep eating, and sleeping, and drinking water so I keep grooooowwwwiiinnnng!"

********

This morning, I was telling the kids we have a lot of stuff to do today. We need to vacuum, sweep and mop the kitchen, do laundry and clean all the bathrooms.
Meghan says, "Okay, you can do all that stuff!"
"And what are you going to do?" I asked her.
"We'll help......after I watch the Berenstein Bears, 'cuz I don't want to miss it."
********
And Ethan, my cute, stubborn little man has a new trick too. Whenever he knows he's being naughty and is trying to get out of being in trouble, he lies down, curls up in his side and pretends to be asleep......fake snores and all. It's usually all I can do to keep a straight face and not bust out laughing at him. If I do manage to resist the fake-sleep ploy, he pulls out the big guns. He crawls around on the floor, meowing like a baby kitty and comes up to be petted. Very hard to discipline a cuddly kitty.
Little stinkers.

Meghan has......

A loud voice:
While walking past the lingerie department at K-Mart, "Hey Mommy, do you see all these boobies?" (she was referring to the racks of bras). 'Do you like all these boobies? Those are really BIG ones!"
A dainty appetite:
Meghan asked for a snack tonight before going to bed. I asked her if she wanted apple slices with peanut butter or cheese and crackers.
Her response: "I want apples with peanut butter, those crackers with the cheese, and a strawberry. Oh, and a pickle." .....long pause......"but I don't want any bacon or pizza so don't give me those."
The really wacky thing is that she ate almost she asked for!
A bad habit:
I told Meghan, "Don't pick your nose please."
Her response: (with index finger still in left nostril) "Boing!!"

Meghan Logic

A few days ago, we went over to the neighbors' house to play. She had a wading pool set up on the patio and the sprinkler on for the kids to run through. Meghan, wanting to be like the boys (she was the only girl there) decided to take her shirt off. When I told her to put it back on, I got the inevitable arguments and complaints. I told her it didn't matter that the boys had their shirts off, that she was a Princess and Princesses ALWAYS wear shirts.
That argument didn't make much of an impression on her so I pulled her in close to me and quietly explained to her that she was getting too big to be running around topless and letting everyone see her boobies. To which she LOUDLY responded, "I don't have boobies Mommy. Boobies are for making milk and I don't have milk!"
She's right, of course. But did she have to be so loud about it?
Oh well.....another day of trying to teach the concept of privacy, modesty and discretion to a strong-willed little girl!

Say What?

Recent conversation with Meghan....
After spending 20 minutes or so arguing with her about putting on a shirt, I was started to get more than a little frustrated. I tried explaining that it was cold, that it was a pretty shirt, that it was inappropriate for her to go topless when we had people coming over.....nothing was working. Finally, I just said, "Girls wear shirts. End of discussion. Now put it on."
Her response...
"But Mommy, not all big girls wear shirts and I'm going to be in a contest. If I have a shirt on, I won't win."
?!?!?!?!?!?! I still don't know what to say to that.

Once upon a time....

(the "Three Little Pigs" as told by Meghan on the way to daycare this morning)

There was this Ethan Pig and a Mommy Pig, a Meghan Pig and a Daddy, I mean Shon Pig. The Shon-Daddy Pig had to go to work and the Mommy pig was at a restaurant so the Grandma Pig came over to keep the kids...I mean the Ethan Pig and the Meghan Pig.... company. She gave them lunch and gave them naps and then it was time for her to go home so the Big Pigs had to leave work.

Then it was time to get up so I, the Meghan Pig, got up out of bed and woke everyone else up.

Christmas Chaos....

Here are some pics of our Christmas fun.......

Ethan and Meghan really loved helping decorate the tree. This year, Meghan was big enough to understand the idea of "fragile" and handled each ornament gently.

Ethan, on the other hand, was convinced that we had devised the whole thing just for his personal amusement and spent most of the morning shouting, "BALL!!!!" as he attempted to throw every ornament he got a hold of.
(don't be fooled by that angelic expression....he's usually up to no good!)

With a little help from Mommy, Meghan wrote a letter to Santa asking for a Dora video game for herself and a basketball goal for her little brother. Santa must not have been able to read her writing because he made a special trip down from the North Pole to see Meghan and Ethan. Ethan wasn't really impressed with the scary guy with the tickley beard......

Meghan, however, knew exactly who was knocking on our door. As soon as she saw him through the window she started dancing, jumping up and down, clapping her hands and laughing. She literally couldn't hold still. I was so excited for her. There's nothing like seeing a child who really believes to get a grinchy-grouch like me into the holiday spirit.

After talking to both kids and having a few cookies, Santa had to head back to the North Pole. But, he promised to be back on Christmas Eve with presents. After Santa left, our good friend Robert came over for dinner and Meghan told him all about how Santa had come to see her. She even had him look out the window to show him which direction Santa had left in. They looked to see if his sleigh was outside, but all they saw was Robert's car. (wink, wink!)

On Christmas Eve, Meghan woke up with a bad cough and not feeling good at all. We had Shon's Mom, Grandma & Grandpa over for presents and dinner that night. Shon's mom, Rose, ended up spending the night so she could be here to see the kids open their presents in the morning. It was a rough night for all of us. Poor Meghan's cough got worse and she had a fever. She spent most of the night in bed with us....a tight fit with me, Shon, and both kids in bed. None of us got much sleep that night.

But, somewhere around 4:00 AM we all fell asleep just long enough for Santa to come. Even though she was still sick, Meghan was up at dawn to see what was under the tree and Ethan wasn't far behind her. Meghan's favorite gift was either the pink V-Tech computer game from Grandma or the pink and white doll bed that Santa brought. It has a pink and white quilt made by Nanny Jean and pink pillows and mattress made by Grandma Rose. Ethan's favorite gift is the dump truck that Santa brought. It's noisy so he loves it.

So, that was our Christmas. I hope everyone else had as wonderful a holiday as we did.
